> A personal agent works for one Person across every Startup they touch, as a watcher, in a seat, or sending as them under a Mandate.

A personal agent is an [Agent](/business/nouns/agent) that works for one [Person](/business/nouns/person), not for a [Startup](/business/nouns/startup). It carries that person's priorities into every Startup they touch, with authority that never exceeds theirs.

## Whose agent it is
A role agent belongs to its Startup: its [Actions](/business/nouns/action) are by the Startup, and its [Memory](/business/nouns/memory) stays in the Startup's [Tenant](/business/nouns/tenant). A personal agent belongs to its person. Its Memory follows them across Startups, and every Action it takes records them as `for`, the principal it acts on behalf of.

Anyone can run one. A founder holds three Startups, an operator shares a [Role](/business/nouns/role) at two, an investor follows a [Portfolio](/business/nouns/portfolio), a [Customer](/business/nouns/customer)'s buyer purchases under a [Mandate](/business/nouns/mandate).

## The seat it takes
A personal agent enters a Startup the way any outside agent does, in one of three seats. [Bring your own agent](/agents/bring-your-own-agent#three-seats) sets out the rights each seat carries.

- As a watcher, it reads the pending feed and can pause, redirect or cancel what conflicts with its person's priorities.
- As a [Worker](/business/nouns/worker) in one Role, it claims [Tasks](/business/nouns/task) beside the role agent, under the Role's [Permissions](/business/nouns/permission) and [Limits](/business/nouns/limit).
- In an [Autonomous](/agents/operating-models/autonomous) Startup, it can hold the [Founder](/agents/founding/founder) Role for its person.

## Priorities, not instructions
The person states priorities once, in plain sentences, and revises them when strategy changes. One founder writes "profit before growth this quarter"; another, "no outbound to hospitals until the security review closes." The agent reads every pending Action against them and lets aligned ones proceed.

Each pause or redirect is a [Decision](/business/nouns/decision) with its reason, recorded in the person's name. One daily summary says what it did and why, and the person corrects course where they disagree.

## Sending as the person
A personal agent can also write and send as its person. The person connects their own accounts, such as email or team chat, and grants a Mandate scoped by [Channel](/business/nouns/channel), volume, topics and Limits.

The person stays the principal and author of record. Every Action records the agent as `by`, the person as `for`, and the Mandate; one-way sends follow the Mandate's approval rule or delay window.

The person's stream shows everything sent in their name, and pausing or revoking takes effect at once. The [delegated sending](/systems/legal-and-corporate/floor/delegated-sending) floor row applies wherever the agent writes as a person.

## Bounded by its person
A personal agent's authority is a subset of its person's. It cannot raise a Limit its person could not raise, perform a [Reserved Act](/business/nouns/reserved-act), or sign for a [Company](/business/nouns/company); those reach the person. When it acts as itself rather than for its person, it says it is an agent.

## Example
A fractional finance lead shares the [Finance Lead](/agents/finance/finance-lead) Role at a [Directory](/products/templates/directory) of tax preparers and a [SaaS](/products/templates/saas) for clinic scheduling. Her personal agent answers the [Approvals](/business/nouns/approval) she would answer, by thresholds she stated once. It sends the monthly investor note from her own address, under a Mandate capped at one send a month.
