> A folder in agents/ is one Team, and its index file states the Team's purpose and lead Role.

A folder in `agents/` is one [Team](/business/nouns/team), and its `index.mdx` states the Team's purpose and lead [Role](/business/nouns/role). It implements the [org chart](/agents).

```text
agents/
└── customer/
    ├── index.mdx                       the Team
    ├── success-manager.mdx             a Role and who fills it
    ├── success-manager.test.ts         its eval cases
    └── skills/renewal-call/SKILL.md    a skill the Role loads
```

## Reference
`index.mdx`: frontmatter is the Team; the body is its purpose.

| Key | Type | Holds |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `lead` | Role path | The Role accountable for the Team |
| `mission` | string | One line: what the Team owns |

Every [Startup](/business/nouns/startup) starts with eleven default Teams. A default Team that is unchanged has no folder.

## Examples
### Minimal
```mdx title="agents/customer/index.mdx"
---
lead: customer/success-manager
---
```

### Leaseline
```mdx title="agents/customer/index.mdx"
---
lead: customer/success-manager
mission: Every resident answers before the renewal date.
---
The customer Team owns notices, answers and renewals.
```

## What it builds
The [StartupBuilder](/code/builders/startup) compiles the folder.

- a `Team` with its lead Role
- each Role file below as a seat on the Team
- the Team's [Dashboard](/business/nouns/dashboard), scoped to its Roles

## Good to know
- The folder follows the [Agents](/business/nouns/agent) tab: Teams and Roles live together in `agents/`.
- An agent sold to [Customers](/business/nouns/customer) is a [Product](/business/nouns/product), in [product files](/code/file-conventions/products), with `$type: [Agent]` whose `role` points here.
