# How customers buy a service

> How to choose the way a service is bought, so its price matches how your buyer already pays for this kind of work.

A [Service](/business/nouns/service) sells in one of five shapes, and each is an [Offer](/business/nouns/offer) with its own [Price](/business/nouns/price) and bound. Pick the shape your buyer already uses to buy this kind of work.

## Five shapes
| Shape | The buyer pays | Each purchase is | Leaseline's example |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Package | A fixed price for a fixed scope | One [Order](/business/nouns/order) | $499 to import and check a 500-unit portfolio |
| Retainer | Monthly, for a set amount of work | A [Subscription](/business/nouns/subscription), with an Order per delivery | $199 a month for every renewal notice, 90 days ahead |
| Per delivery | Each accepted delivery | An Order per delivery, billed on acceptance | $4 per renewal signed |
| Scoped quote | A price set for this job | A [Quote](/business/nouns/quote), accepted into an Order | A lease audit across 12 buildings |
| Booked session | A slot on the calendar | An Order held to a time | A 30-minute renewal strategy call |

Every shape bills on acceptance or by its period, never on the agent's own claim of done. [Delivery and acceptance](/products/service/delivery-and-acceptance) covers the check.

## Bound the work
A package and a retainer each promise a set amount, so each needs a [Limit](/business/nouns/limit). Grant [`Order.revise`](/business/nouns/order/revise) with a count of two, and the third revision request offers a new Order instead.

A retainer's work is a count per period. Leaseline's $199 retainer covers up to 200 units a month; the 201st unit offers the next tier. Without a bound, a retainer becomes unlimited work at a fixed price.

## Price per delivery once quality is proven
Per-delivery pricing earns the most trust and carries the most risk. Charge per renewal signed only when the [Evaluator](/business/nouns/evaluator) already passes nearly every delivery, because a failed delivery earns nothing.

Start most services as a package or a retainer. Move to per delivery once a month of results shows the rate you can promise.

## Quotes and sessions
Quote when every job differs: the buyer sends a brief, and the Quote freezes the scope and price before work starts. [Quotes and intake](/products/service/quotes-and-intake) covers the brief.

A booked session is a package held to a time. The buyer picks a slot from the agent's calendar through [Scheduling](/systems/scheduling), pays at booking, and the Order delivers at that time.
