> An Event records that something happened to a record, such as an Invoice paid, and any Workflow can start on it.

An [Event](/business/nouns/event) is the record that something happened to a [Thing](/business/nouns/thing), named by its [Noun](/business/nouns/noun) and a past-tense [Verb](/business/nouns/verb), such as `Invoice.paid`. Any [Workflow](/business/nouns/workflow) can start on it.

## What you get
- 1 Event for every Verb that changes a record, kept forever (Event)
- 1 Trigger on each Event an inherited Workflow starts on (Trigger)

## Events that start inherited Workflows
| Event | Starts |
| --- | --- |
| `Customer.created` | [Onboard a Customer](/workflows/processes/onboarding/onboard-customer) |
| `Lead.created` | [Answer inbound](/workflows/processes/inbound-sales/answer-inbound) |
| `Conversation.created` | [Answer a message](/workflows/processes/support/answer-message) |
| `Subscription.unsubscribed` | [Save and win back](/workflows/processes/retention/save-and-win-back) |
| `Order.placed` | [Deliver an outcome](/workflows/processes/delivery/deliver-outcome) |
| `Incident.created` | [Resolve an incident](/workflows/processes/incident-response/resolve-incident) |

## Guides
- [Automate a workflow](/workflows/automate-a-workflow): its [Trigger](/business/nouns/trigger) waits on `Subscription.renewed`.

## How it works
Each Event holds `name`, `at`, `data` and `seq`, and is never edited once written. Every Event is listed in [Events](/business/events).
