Licensing your data
What a data buyer may do with your records: use them, show them or resell them, and how each license is priced and delivered.
A data Offer sells access and rights together. Its license says what the buyer may do with the records, and the price should rise with each right it adds.
Three licenses
license | The buyer may | Typical buyer | Leaseline's price |
|---|---|---|---|
internal | Use the records inside its own business and product, and show results derived from them | A property manager checking its own leases | A cent per lookup |
display | Show the records themselves to its own users, with the attribution line | A listings site showing renewal dates beside each building | $3,000 a year |
redistribute | Resell or pass on the records, in bulk or inside its product | A data broker or a lender's risk vendor | $12,000 a year |
Every license forbids rebuilding the Dataset as a competing product. The terms appear on the Offer's page, in each buyer's Agreement, and in the response metadata of every call.
Default to internal. A buyer who needs more asks, and that conversation is how a one-cent customer becomes a $12,000 one.
Attribution
attribution is the credit line a buyer shows wherever the records appear, such as Renewal data from Leaseline. It is required on display and redistribute, and it sends people back to you each time a record is shown.
How each license is delivered
| Delivery | Fits | Priced |
|---|---|---|
| Lookup by API or MCP | internal, a key at a time | Per call, through the Meter |
| Bulk file in the Portal, weekly or daily | display and redistribute | A yearly fee |
| Export to the buyer's warehouse | redistribute at volume | A yearly fee, or per record delivered |
A yearly license bills in advance, and its revenue is recognized month by month. A private Offer fits a buyer who wants its own terms: see enterprise deals.
Your own sources come first
You can only grant rights you hold. A record drawn from another party's Source carries that Source's terms, and a Dataset with any unlicensed Source cannot go Live. Datasets covers provenance.
Takedowns run the same way for every license: a person who asks to be removed leaves the next delivery. Each redistribute buyer gets the removal in its next file and must apply it. Handle a takedown covers the steps.
